Hearing voices, Lindsey tentatively stepped forward. She'd never been in the lab before, of course, and the thought of what it held for her evoked both excitement and a strange terror in her.
"Hello?" she called nervously.

Professor Dogwood walked into the main room upon hearing Lindsey. He looked around until spotting her and then briskly walked towards her.
"Hello, miss. May I help you?" He said kindly.

Tristianna peeked around the Professor's body, and upon seeing the new girl she quickly walked up to her and said, "Hi!"

Lindsey smiled nervously up at the Professor. "I'm here for my first pokémon," she explained. "The letter I was sent said to come here today. I'm sorry I'm late, but..."
She was cut off as a brown-haired girl appeared from behind the Professor and approached Lindsey. "Hi!" she chirped enthusiastically.
"Err, hi," Lindsey replied shyly.

Professor Dogwood smiled and responded, "Don't feel bad about being late, it's not a problem at all. Which Pokemon would you like?"
Tristianna grinned and exclaimed, "I'm Tristianna! What's your name?"

He walked over to Lindsey, eager to meet her. "Hi!" He said, smiling. "My name's Hiroshi, what's yours?"

Lindsey was surprised by the sudden clamor that seemed to have sprung up all around her. She felt slightly awkward to be the oldest of the kids who planned to set out on their journeys, but she supposed that there really wasn't that much good in speculating on it.
"I'd like a slugma, please," she told the Professor, deciding that she should probably get that out of the way first.
"Hi, Hiroshi. And your name's Tristianna? I've never met anyone named that before." In fact, Lindsey thought that her name seemed rather ordinary compared with the exotic ones she was being presented with. "Oh, and my name's Lindsey," she added as an afterthought.

"Slugma, hm?" Professor Dogwood said as he walked towards the back room.
While he was gone, Trist said, "It's very nice to meet you Lindsey. So you're going to travel through the Motan Region as well? That's really neat! Perhaps we'll meet up with each other along the way, no?"
A few moments later, the Professor returned holding a Pokeball in each of his hands. "I have two Slugma here, Lindsey. Would you like one with the Magma Armor ability, or the Flame Body ability?"

"Oh, I'm sure we'll see each other again at some point," Lindsey told Tristianna with a smile. As the professor walked back into the room and offered her one of the two slugma, she said, "I'd like the one with flame body, please."

Professor Dogwood responded, "Alright then, here you are." He handed Lindsey one of the Pokeballs.

"Now, before you all go I have a few other things to give you." The Professor quickly walked to a desk nearby, and pulled out a drawer, retreiving three items from it, and walking back to the group. "Here is a Pokedex for each of you." He gave Tristi, Hiroshi, and Lindsey each their own Pokedex, and then he reached into his coat pockets and brought out several Pokeballs, giving five to each of the three Trainers. Stepping back, he smiled and said, "Now you're all ready to start your journeys."
Tristianna unzipped an outside pocket on her backpack, dropping the extra Pokeballs in it, as well as putting her Pokedex in there as well. She hooked Vulpix's Pokeball onto her belt, and thanked Professor Dogwood one more time. As she turned to head out, she called, "Bye Lindsey! See you on the road! Come on Hiroshi, let's get moving!"

Lindsey smiled and accepted the her four pokéballs, one occupied and three empty, as well as her pokédex.
"See you two!" she told Hiroshi and Tristianna as she made her way to the door, attaching her pokéballs one by one to the magnetic clips on her belt as she did so.
After she had exited the building she flipped open her pokédex and contentedly fiddled with its settings and configuration, an activity which resulted in several near collisions with both animate and inanimate objects. She was on the road at last, though she didn't plan to leave town just yet...
