Anybody have any idea as to why that white box has suddenly appeared around my avatar? The image was transparent when I uploaded it and has been working fine transparent for the past few days. Now, however, it's been given a white background.

I don't know why that happened, but on this computer your avatar always had a white background..

Yup. Transparent for me too. If might just be some of the differant internet programs, for example, when I'm using internet explorer at my house, the background on my userlookup on neopets is fixed like it's suppose to be, but on navigator, it isn't a fixed background. At first I thought it was the HTML I entered that was the problem, but it turned out it wasn't.

*mind boggles*
Wow, I knew browsers would do that to content, but I never thought they would screw with images, too. Thanks for pointing that out.
It's back to being transparent. I must have accidentally been set on IE rendering yesterday.

IE is Interned Explorer. And you will always see the white background, because apparently it doesn't correctly display the transparency on my image. It apparently works fine in FireFox and Netscape.

With the SBC Yahoo browser, which is what I use, it has a white bg, actually, it is more greyish than white...

I believe that the Yahoo browser is powered by IE. I think that the only browsers that will display it with correct transparency are FireFox and Netscape.

The reason is because your image is a .png, and png's only display in some browsers, while sometimes the png's themselves display, but the alpha transparency used in them(transparency that only allows for one color, that being a grey-sih white-ish color like in your avatar) sometimes isn't viewed as transparent. Apparently my browser cannot view transparency in pngs, because allt he transparent pngs I view ahve a backgound.
If you want to make it more compadible with other browsers try changing the file format to a .gif and setting the background color to transparent(and any other colors you may want to be transparent as well) using the transparency palette. That should make it transparent in all browsers.
And I think you're right about the browser thing. In IE it's not, vs in netscape and mozilla it is. If I get my hands on any other browsers I'll make sure to test it out and see if your avvie is transparent or not.

I had no idea that there were restrictions on .png's. Generally, the places I've seen recommend them as being the smallest and most versatile image files. I'll look into making it a .gif.
